2025 Board Election

Director District Positions

Great Prairie AEA will be accepting Statement of Candidacy submissions for the election of five AEA board members through October 15, 2025. You will find attached the process for electing Area Education Agency board members in accordance with Iowa Code, Section 273.8, Election of Directors. The five director districts up for election in 2025 are:

District 1 - Four-year term*
Central Lee, Danville, Fort Madison, Keokuk, New London and Van Buren County

District 2 - Two-year term
Centerville, Davis County, Moulton-Udell and Ottumwa

District 3 - Four-year term*
Albia, Chariton, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Moravia, Oskaloosa, Seymour and Wayne

District 4 - Two-year term
Cardinal, Fairfield, Keota, Mount Pleasant, North Mahaska, Pekin, Sigourney and Tri-County

District 5 - Four-year term*
Burlington, Mediapolis, Morning Sun, Waco, Wapello, West Burlington Ind. And Winfield-Mount Union

*While the full-term length for all seats is four years, due to redistricting they will have designated term ends dates of 2027 or 2029 for each of the five seats.

Election Details

The board of directors of an Area Education Agency shall be elected by a weighted vote of the members of the boards of directors of the local school districts located within the director district. The member of the Area Education Agency board to be elected may be a member of a local school district board of directors and shall be an elector and a resident of the director district, but shall not be a school district employee.

How to File for Candidacy

A candidate for election to the Area Education Agency board shall file a “Statement of Candidacy” with the Great Prairie AEA Board Secretary no later than October 15, 2025. The statement of candidacy is attached for your school board office, and it can also be found at the administrative offices of the Great Prairie AEA, 2814 N Court St., Ottumwa, Iowa.

Board members shall serve on the Great Prairie AEA Board of Directors beginning the first regular meeting of December 2025.
